Oprah Winfrey To Launch Her OWN TV Network
Oprah Winfrey is back again with yet another entrepreneurial milestone. Ms. Winfrey’s Harpo (Oprah spelled backwards) Productions Inc. has recently aligned with Discovery Channel in a 50/50 purchase to create Oprah’s own network television station dedicated 24/7 to everything Oprah. Winfrey’s new station will now be known as The Oprah Winfrey Network (O.W.N.)Spring-boarding from years of success with her very own TV show (The Oprah Winfrey Show) and her own magazine (O, The Oprah Magazine), this media-savvy philanthropist will soon unleash the power of her loving message around the clock to millions of her loyal viewers, which diversely span across the entire globe.
David Zaslav, President and CEO of Discovery, owns thirteen other successful networks in the United States, which also include The Learning Channel (TLC) and The Animal Planet. While brainstorming the transformation of Discovery Health, among the least successful of Discovery’s programs, Zaslav was “coincidentally” handed a copy of Oprah’s O magazine.
Serendipitously, Oprah had recently reviewed one of her own diary entries dated May 24, 1992 when Zaslav decided to approach her with this business proposal shortly thereafter. The page of her diary that she recently reviewed, described her at a time in her life when she had a deep-felt desire to create and own her very own television network one day.
Oprah, who was once a strong shareholder in the Oxygen television network, commented on the differences between owning these two television outlets. “The difference here is I will have editorial control, and there is a vision for what I want to do with this network… I’d been having this vision for 15 years. When David approached me about this idea, it felt like, ‘I can’t believe you’re saying this!’”
Winfrey’s close friends and family used to joke with her about owning her own television channel someday. I guess we can chalk it up to another dream come true for Oprah. “Follow your instincts. That’s where true wisdom manifests itself”, says Oprah Winfrey. There’s no doubt that Oprah will do just that when creating this new monumental channel.
Millions of Oprah Winfrey Show viewers are now standing by with anticipation as The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), to be launched near the summer of 2008, enters production. It seems that if anyone is up to the challenge of transforming our media’s influence through a positive, loving, rational, spiritual message, Oprah is no doubt the best person for the job. Industry professionals suggest that the Oprah Winfrey Network will be top to bottom covered with inspiration, motivation, celebration, desperation and important information.
From the start of her career Oprah Winfrey has always used her charisma and positive attitude to create her life as she so chooses. Millions came to understand the underlying philosophies of this megastar when she invited the cast of independent film and cultural phenomenon The Secret to join her discussion panel. Oprah stated that although she had never officially referred to herself as using The Secret, she really lives by its philosophies in every possible moment. Judging by the repeated appearance of The Secret on The Oprah Winfrey Show, it’s easy to see that not only Oprah herself, but millions of her dedicated fans have become enriched by their spiritual philosophy, which explains intricate laws of the universe, such as The Law of Attraction. Only time will tell if Oprah introduces a network program aimed to propel the positive message of the Law of Attraction on the O.W.N.
At such a time as this, when news networks are boosting their ratings by focusing on war, terrorism, and a poor economy, billions of viewers worldwide are left to feel fearful and hopeless, thus perpetuating these problems by focusing more energy toward them. As our fellow Americans continue to struggle with the media and its formidable influence on ourselves and our children, many would agree that Americans unanimously are in need of such a positive source of inspiration in their households.
Is it time now for a channel that is dedicated to bringing people together instead of separating them with fear and illusions of separation? Could this possibly be the perfect moment in our history to focus the world’s eyeballs in the direction of what we desire, rather than what we’re trying to avoid? Is it time that a new source of media helps to guide our global society’s conscious evolution?
